Aisling’s Picks: Six great products to calm down rosacea

It has been called ‘the curse of the Celts’ and with one in ten Irish people suffering from rosacea we need the best products to protect and repair our pale, fragile and irritated skin.

Dermalogica Ultra Calming Kit (€33 online)

This is a relatively new range and although it works really well on rosacea prone skin it is expensive to shell out for the full line of three complementary products which all work together to calm down that blasted redness. That is why I was delighted to see this starter kit containing the trio of cleanser, cream and serum, so you can try the entire range without breaking the bank.

Ren Evercalm Anti-Redness Serum (€35)

You can thank the constant bursting of tiny capillaries which cause tiny thread veins to form, thinning the skin and causing the hated redness to become even more noticeable over time. Use this hydrating serum under moisturiser as another weapon in your arsenal to strengthen your fragile skin.

Avene Anti Antirougeurs Jour Redness-Relief Moisturising Protecting Cream (€22)

Rosacea is often accompanied with very dry, flaking skin and this cream instantly goes to work to soothe redness and irritation. Use it after washing your face in the morning as green pigments instantly tone down skin colour while the cream soothes the feeling of heat. It only has an SPF20 though so do apply a higher SPF over it.

Kiehl’s Skin Rescuer (€35)

A job interview or a hot date lined up? If know your rosacea is going to act up when you are stressed, then Skin Rescuer is formulated to help save the day. With extracts of Rosa Gallacia which strengthens the fragile skin barrier it works fast to calm everything down.

Dr. Andrew Weil for Origins Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Advanced Face Serum (€80)

The smell of this potion may put you off and that is because it uses Chinese ingredients long associated with skin soothing and reparation and works to repair the skins barrier. Used regularly it calms and strengthens skin - use it under your moisturiser.
