A motorist has been killed in a road traffic accident in Stradbally, Co Laois.
The single vehicle incident happened on the Athy Road at approximately 2.45pm when a car hit a wall and subsequently went on fire. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was fatally injured as a result of the collision.
The body of the deceased was taken to Midlands Regional Hospital, Portlaoise where a post-mortem will take place.
The Athy Road (R428) was closed on Friday evening as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators conducted a technical examination of the scene. The road has since reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward, including any road users who may have dash-cam footage.
