Two elegant and fruity wines offering great value for money

Wines for the Weekend: This week we try two tasty wines from Molloy’s Liquor Stores

This week we try two wines from Molloy’s Liquor Stores. We are all familiar with red Rioja; it is one of our favourite wines, but the Rioja region also produces some very good rosé, sparkling and white wines. I feature the white Sancho Garcés this week, but if you fancy splashing out a little on something different, Molloy’s also has the Zinio Street Art Collection (€18.60, down from €21), a rich, smoky white Rioja with toasted almonds and hazelnuts.

Molloy’s has built up a reputation for their range of Bordeaux. As well as the featured Marquis de Chasse, I tasted two more expensive wines: the Château Belair 2018, Bordeaux Supérieur (€17.99); and Château La Raze Beauvallet 2016, Cru Bourgeois, Médoc (€22.99), both of which offer very good value for money. Either of these would go nicely with a roast of lamb or beef, or recipes featuring red peppers.

Rioja Blanco 2022, Sancho Garcés

13%, €12.99

Light and refreshing with lively melon and pineapple fruits. Perfect summer drinking without food or alongside mildly spicy grilled chicken.

Bordeaux 2020, Marquis de Chasse

13.5%, €11.75 (down from €16.99)

An elegant Bordeaux with smooth, ripe dark fruits and a nicely rounded finish. Try it with lamb chops or a Mediterranean tray bake. Great value for money.
