Two seasonal wines from Lidl this week. I have featured the Laurana Verdicchio in previous years. Sadly, this Italian white is 50 per cent more expensive than it was when I mentioned it in 2019, but it is still good value. The red wine, made in a style that will please traditional Bordeaux drinkers, is great value. It does really need food to show it at its best, though.

Laurana Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi 2021 Classico Superiore, €14.99
Plenty of fresh juicy apple and pear fruits, good crisp acidity and a rounded finish. Perfect on its own, with herby pasta dishes or with grilled sea bass.

Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux 2019, €9.99
Cool plum and blackberry fruits with drying tannins on the finish. Eat it with a roast of beef or lamb, or a mushroom veggie burger.
