Sea Pinks – Soft Days: A bit of this and that makes for a cohesive vision

Intermingling is good for the creative spirit, and so it proves with Belfast’s Sea Pinks, whose three members (Neil Brogan, Steven Henry, Davey Agnew) have ducked and dived with other native music acts such as Cruising, Documenta and Girls Names.

With Sea Pinks, however, there seems to be more focus – and, with Soft Days, a unified sensibility to the music.

The album begins with a mesmeric drone-on (I Don't Feel Like) Giving In and continues in similar post-punk/pop territory with songs such as Ordinary Daze, Depth of Field and the title track.

Although solidly contemporary, there are references to 1980s bands such as Microdisney and Antipodean acts such as The Go-Betweens.

But what marks out Sea Pinks from othes of similar hue is the cohesiveness of their ideas and execution.
