Lower Than Atlantis – Safe in Sound album review: Unobjectionable at worst

Longevity is under-rated. You may have never heard of them, but Lower Than Atlantis have managed to sustain a career across years. The Watford band undeniably take their cue from the emo and hardcore scenes, but their fifth record intermittently strays from that path.

The angst is toned down and melody turned up on the likes of Could Be Worse, a song with a verse like Hall & Oates and a crashing chorus like My Chemical Romance. Elsewhere, it's more predictable, as heard on the high-energy, low-impact I Would and the dated Long Time Coming, while the lyrics of the dejected I Don't Want to Be Here Anymore seem out of place on a generally celebratory, upbeat collection.

For the most part, however, it’s unobjectionable at worst.
