Alexander Fagan, who lives in France, was shocked on a recent visit to Dublin to be charged €2.29 for a two-litre bottle of mineral water at a Spar shop in Ringsend, Dublin. His local Monoprix supermarket, in Montpellier, charges €1.32 for a pack of 12 1.5-litre bottles of Crystalline spring water.

David Egan of Lehenaghmore, in Co Cork, is also unhappy about Irish prices. "I purchased 250 grams of strawberries in SuperValu in Wilton Shopping Centre a few weeks ago for €2.99; in Eindhoven, in the Netherlands, 500 grams of strawberries cost 1.99 - three times cheaper than in Ireland."
