Web Log: The Formation of Love on Facebook

Don't bother changing your Facebook status from "single" to "in a relationship" – chan- ces are the social networking site already knows this about you. Welcome to the wonderful world of data science where your relationship status can be predicted based on your timeline activity.

By analysing posts of 460,000 couples before and after declaring a relationship, data scientists noticed that those in new relationships tend to post less. Presumably they are too distracted by amorous offline activities.

What Microsoft Really Thinks of Windows 8
Microsoft UX (user experience) designer Jacob Miller took to Reddit to explain once and for all that while the default Metro interface is a big change for Windows users it was done with the masses – content consumers, not producers – in mind.

“We made two separate playgrounds for them.” Okay. And the reason so many people disliked Windows 8 is because people hate change.

“Familiarity will always trump good design,” Miller said. “That’s why people act like a unicorn was murdered every time Facebook releases a new redesign.”

“The only reason the Start button was reinstated was because it was familiar and therefore better. It wasn’t really better, just familiar. But Vista was a mess.” So that’s that sorted.

Get Work Done with ChoreMonster
This cool app was brought to our attention by ChoreMonster's Irish ambassador Adam Barry (12). It turns household chores into a game that allows parents to set tasks like feeding the cat and give their kids points (and real-life rewards) in return. Each completed task earns a spin on the Monster Carnival wheel where you can add a new monster to your collection or get a dud prize (jar of farts, anyone?).

ChoreMonster requires a paid subscription if you want to unlock the Monster Carnival prizes and is available for the iOS, PCs and Macs.
