Web Log: Latest Chrome release dumps voice-activated search

Chrome version 46 will not have the voice-activated search feature OK Google

OK Google? It’s not actually okay, Google. Some of us are not very comfortable with you eavesdropping on our conversations on the off chance that we’re actually talking to you. It doesn’t seem like a fair exchange for convenient voice search.

Well, it seems as though Google has been listening to us and has decided to, well, stop listening to us. The latest release of the Google’s web browser, Chrome version 46, will not have the voice-activated search feature OK Google built in. In the Google Chrome Help Forum, one Googler stated that this was because “we haven’t seen many users utilise this feature on these platforms”. If you still want this feature on your desktop it is available but you’ll have to click a microphone button instead.
