Web Log: Google Spaces targets small group sharing

Spaces is private and great for sharing things with small groups

These days a lot of my group sharing is done through WhatsApp. This has the benefit of convenience and privacy but the downsides are links lost in an endless stream of chatter, the search function isn't great, and you can't search for and embed content from within the app so there's the endless app switching. It's fine for keeping in touch with everyone but not so useful for organising and keeping track of ideas for a podcast I record with some friends. While Google's new Spaces app is being talked about in relation to the much maligned Google+ what it really represents is a mashup of messaging apps like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger and the shared working space of Google Docs. Spaces is private and great for sharing things with small groups while allowing for links, video, posts and anything from within Chrome to be shared and commented upon. It's also a robust browser app with its own Chrome extension.
