New Google Contacts obliterates pesky duplicates

‘Find duplicates’ tool allows you to merge overlapping entries

The worst thing about lugging contacts from laptop to smartphone to webmail provider is that, over the years, one tends to gather a whole lot of duplicate contact details; a phone number here, a work email there and suddenly your little black book is a mess. Google has redesigned its Contacts web-app to provide one place to keep all details, and the best part is the "Find duplicates" tool. It's very satisfying to merge all of those overlapping entries. One feature that may not suit everyone is the Google+ integration. This pulls in your Google+ circles, which may not be very useful (and even a little irritating) if you don't use this social network in the same way as your inbox. Overall, though, this is a nice web-app with the look and feel of Google Inbox. contacts.google.com
