Technology developer Boscasports has won the contract to provide digital displays for racecourse pool betting operator Tote Ireland.

Irish-based Boscasports already provides on-screen displays with live betting information almost 60 British racecourses.

The Dublin-headquartered company will provide a similar service to all 26 Irish racecourses under a four-year contract recently agreed with Tote Ireland.

Boscasports’ screens will display runners, riders, live odds and tips from racing data specialist Timeform.

Screens will also show likely payouts from exotic bets, such as predicting the first two or three home in a given race, race meetings at other venues and other content should the racecourse want it.

Boscasports designed its system to make the information as accessible as possible, making it particularly attractive to new or casual racegoers.

The system was first used at this year’s Galway Festival, where the Tote-sponsored Galway Plate, won by the Willie Mullins-trained Royal Rendezvous, was one of the highlights.

Eugene Mitchell, Boscasports chief executive, called Tote Ireland’s decision to choose its systems a significant and exciting development.

“We look forward to working with an organisation which is so central to Irish racing and providing a world class solution to continue to transform the Tote betting experience at Irish racecourses,” he said.

Ross Kierans, general manager, Tote Ireland, said the company’s displays had already earned positive feedback from racegoers.

Owned by State body Horseracing Ireland, the tote is the pooled betting system offering punters win and each-way wagers on each race, as well as jackpots, where they win large sums for picking the winner of several races, and exotics. Earnings from its business are paid back to racing.

Boscasports has provided displays to Britbet, which operates the tote at 55 British racecourses, including Cheltenham and Aintree, since 2018.

The Irish company renewed that contract in December 2020 and has since recruited Chester, Bangor and Chelmsford City racetracks.

In 2019, it signed a deal with Media Systems Technology to provide data screens from horseracing around the world to 3,200 shops in Italy.

Racecourse Media Group, broadcasting partner of Britain’s leading racecources, took a stake in Boscasports.

The company began by developing digital displays carrying live information, runners and riders, betting odds and statistics for betting shops. Clients include Paddy Power.
