While the countdown is on for Banter’s Football Special next week with Bill O’Herlihy, Brian Kerr and Miguel Delaney (and we’re closing the list today for it), here’s news of one of the events we’re involved with outside of our HQ in the capital this summer.

Banter heads west in July for a conversation with the great Nile Rodgers as part of this year’s Galway Arts Festival in its First Thought Talks series.

Nile will be in Galway for Chic’s show at the Big Top in Fisheries Field. Before he takes to that stage, the man behind dozens of Chic hits, the producer who worked with everyone from David Bowie to Duran Duran and the author of the fantastic “Le Freak” autobiography will be joining me to talk about his life and work. Expect some great yarns, brilliant anecdotes and thought-provoking stories.

Banter’s Conversation with Nile Rodgers takes place at the Hotel Meyrick, Galway on July 19 at 5pm. Admission to the event is free.

Other First Thought Talks participants include Mary Robinson, Fintan O’Toole, Alex Ross, John Mahoney, Rondi Reed, Tom Murphy and Garry Hynes.
