Sam and Chloe Magee are through to the last-16 of the badminton World Championships in Glasgow.

The Irish siblings beat the Japanese pair Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino, ranked 22nd in the world, 21-13 16-21 21-15 in the round of 32.

The Magees are likely to face the number three-ranked duo of Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir, of Indonesia, in the next round.

Earlier this year the duo won Ireland’s first European medal, taking the mixed-doubles bronze at the European Championships in Kolding, Denmark.
