The Scottish Rugby Union yesterday defended its use of "canned cheering" during the team's opening game at Murrayfield on Sunday - even when there was nothing to shout about. "We decided that as we are on the eve of a new Millennium we should look at jazzing things up a bit," said a Scottish RU spokesman.
