Madam, – I refer to the letter from the Dean of St Patrick’s Cathedral, Robert MacCarthy (March 30th).
The dean expresses surprise with our President and Government. What surprises me is that he wrote the letter without the prior consent of the board of the cathedral.
Your readers would not be aware that it was agreed, unanimously, by the board (June 2008), that the current dean should not write any “public” letter, without the prior consent of the board. Such consent was not sought in this case.
In addition, the board passed a resolution of no confidence in Robert MacCarthy, as dean, in September 2008. – Yours, etc,
