A Temple Bar restaurant owner yesterday forfeited 139 bottles of wine for an old people's party. The bottles were seized during a gardai raid.
Mr Ali Faki, a shareholder and director in a company leasing Sinners of Parliament Street, was also fined £50 for trading without a wine licence last September 5th.
Dublin District Court heard there was no licence in force at the time of the gardai raid and shortly afterwards Mr Faki applied to the Revenue Commissioners for a licence. The Garda did not object as the running of the premises had improved and the licence was issued.
When another manager was prosecuted last month, Sinners was described in court by Insp Patrick Leahy as "probably the premises with the worst reputation in the district".
Judge Timothy Lucey refused to return the wine, as the maximum fine for trading without a licence was just £50.
He ordered it go to an annual senior citizens' party organised by Pearse Street gardai.
