PORK AVAILABLE:BUSINESS CONTINUED as normal for a number of restaurants, cafes and shops in Dublin city yesterday, which were sourcing pork from abroad, but a strong fear still remained among consumers according to business managers.

Honoretta Skorowske, manager of the Brasilia cafe in the Irish Life Centre on Lower Abbey Street said pork available in the eaterie was brought in from Belgium, but confirmed that many of the morning customers were opting for breakfasts without the meat.

This was echoed by the manager of Sherries cafe bar on Abbey Street, who said customers were "very worried".

Séamus Kelly, the manager of Kelly Bros butchers in Clondalkin said its sausages were all edible as they were brought in from the Netherlands. "We are serving ham and bacon too, as that comes in from England".

Other places serving pork were the Asia Restaurant on Marlborough Street in Dublin 1 and Brother Buffet Real Food Co in the Epicurean Food Hall on Lower Liffey Street, which purchased pork from both the Midland Bacon Co and Jeffrey Davies and Davies Ltd in England.

While many of the sandwich bars including O'Briens and The Bagel Factory were no longer serving ham or bacon in sandwiches, Spar on Lower Abbey Street continued to serve the meat, imported from Belgium.

Some places affected by the removal of pork products were making arrangements to import it.

Ercan Ayyildiz, manager of the Moonstar cafe in the Epicurean Food Hall said the eaterie was not serving pork at present, but it was trying to source the meat in Poland.
