Sweden's Fredrik Jacobson has been named Asprey Golfer of the Month for November following his maiden European Tour win at the Hong Kong Open last week.

The Swede has finished runner-up on six previous occasions, one of which was the Irish Open at Ballybunion, Co Kerry in 2000, before he finally entered the winner's circle.

"I am honoured to be voted Asprey Golfer of the Month ahead of so many deserving candidates," said Jacobsen who earns a £1000 charity donation to The Golf Foundation.

"I'm obviously delighted I finally won my first tournament after coming second so many times and am happy for all the people who have supported me through the years."

"It was particularly tough finishing second in Scotland (in a play-off with Eduardo Romero for the Scottish Open) because I was leading all the way and felt I had a good chance to win but it was not to be. It was nice to win before the year was over," concluded the 28-year-old.

A distinguished list of contenders was drawn up by the Asprey Panel including; Padraig Harrington (who won the BMW Asian Open a fortnight ago), Ernie Els (Nedbank Golf Challenge last week) plus Colin Montgomerie and Bernhard Langer (joint winners of the Volvo Masters last month).

Ireland boasts two winners of the monthly award this year. Graeme McDowell earned the accolade in August for his maiden Tour win in the Scandinavian Masters in only his fourth start as a professional.

Harrington won October's award following his success at the Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland combined with his contribution to the winning European Ryder Cup side at the Belfry at the end of September.
