Prof Brian Norton, President, Dublin Institute of Technology
Where did you go to school?
Many schools in various countries, finishing up in a Sixth Form College in Nottingham.
What was your best subject?
Geography.
Who was your favourite teacher and why?
Mr Nicholson who explained physics with clarity and enthusiasm.
Who was your childhood idol?
I don't think I had one but I always liked the music of David Bowie.
Who was your best friend and why?
My nomadic parents moved too many times for me to have one "best friend" as such - at university Bill, Farshad and I shared many common challenges.
What are they doing now?
Bill runs a college in Japan and Farshad works in Seattle.
What TV show/film most reminds you of your schooldays?
Fanfan la Tulipe, a swashbuckling adventure film.
What song most reminds you of your schooldays?
Gilbert Bécaud's A Little Love and Understanding and (sadly) anything by The Sweet or Slade.
What food most reminds you of your schooldays?
Chicken supreme - hated it then, still do.
Who did you take to your debs?
Until asked this question I didn't know what a "debs" was - I clearly lost out!
Would you send your children to the same schools you went to?
No - but only because they were too far away and have since been demolished.
What was the best thing about your education?
I was taught how to learn, not just what to learn.
What was the worst thing about your education?
Because my parents moved a lot for work it was very disjointed.
