Kuala Lumpur - Lawyers for the ousted deputy prime minister of Malaysia, Mr Anwar Ibrahim, yesterday wrapped up their five-week defence after the judge prevented them from calling 10 new witnesses. The ousted leader told reporters he expects to be convicted and jailed.
Justice Augustine Paul set March 23rd as the date to hear closing arguments. Mr Anwar, who was sacked and arrested in September, is on trial on four corruption charges that he used his position to get police to cover up sexual allegations against him.
Mr Anwar told reporters he expected to be convicted. Asked how long he expected to be put behind bars, he said: "Two years, four years . . . It makes no difference."
