RSL Communications Ireland, one of 18 companies to receive a general telecommunications licence last Monday when the market was fully liberalised, stated yesterday that it hoped to emulate in the Republic the rapid growth it has had in Europe. The president of RSL COM Europe Mr Richard Williams said the company's strategy was to enter markets at an early stage of deregulation. It is present in 14 other European countries and is the leading independent telecoms provider in Finland. The parent company, RSL Communications, provides long distance, calling card, private-line, value-added and Internetbased services. The general telecommunications licence includes the option to provide voice telephony services. It stated that it operated in 21 countries, accounting for more than 70 per cent of the world's international traffic. Last month it was named by Business Week magazine as one of the top 10 growth companies in its Info Tech 100 list.
