The Institute of Directors 1999 Non-Executive Director of the Year Award was presented at the group's annual dinner last night by the President, Mrs McAleese, to Mr Howard Kilroy, former president and chief operations officer of the Jefferson Smurfit Group. Institute president Dr Paddy Galvin said the award's overall aim was to focus attention on the important role a non-executive director can play in the strategic development of a company.
