ULSTER MFC QUARTER FINALS Armagh 2-8 Tyrone 1-9: TWO ROBBIE Tasker penalty goals dumped All-Ireland champions Tyrone out of the Ulster championship at Clones yesterday.
Tasker’s second, a minute from the end of normal time, gave his side an unlikely victory over a side that had opened up a two-point lead.
Armagh led by two points at half-time but were forced on to the back foot for much of the second period. Substitute Shay McGuigan blasted home a goal, but Armagh dug deep to carve out a semi-final place against Monaghan.
Tasker netted in the 11th minute to give Armagh a platform. Earlier, he had been denied by goalkeeper Niall Morgan, who pushed his effort on to the crossbar. Armagh went four points clear with two Gavin McParland scores. Tyrone finished the half strongly with points from Niall Gavin and John McCullagh, but trailed 1-3 to 0-4 at the break.
Tasker had another goal chance early in the second half but opted for a point, and moments later McGuigan crashed home the Tyrone goal. Tyrone pushed on, Gavin and McCullagh scoring. On 59 minutes they led 1-8 to 1-6, but Tasker landed his second penalty, and McParland and Conor King tagged on the insurance scores.
