Golf: Vijay Singh ended a difficult week by hitting a four-under-par 66 on Sunday to win his second PGA title of the season at the Byron Nelson Championship and move into the top five in the world rankings.

Brushing aside the controversy over his comments that Annika Sorenstam should not be playing at the Colonial PGA event next weekend, the Fijian hit a 15-under 265 total for the $1,008,000 winner's cheque to beat Nick Price by two shots.

World number seven Singh announced afterwards that he had withdrawn from this week's Colonial and said the Sorenstam row had not put him off his game.

"When I get to a tournament I totally close out everything that I can," said Singh. "I told my wife last week if I won a tournament I would take a week off," Singh said. "It was a decision not taken at all this week. It just came at the right time, I guess. Just as well."
