Gardai are investigating the theft of a double-barrelled shotgun and a .22 rifle with telescopic sight from a garage on the Old Cratloe Road, Limerick, at the weekend.

Two men armed with a sawn-off shotgun who threatened the owner of a Chinese restaurant in Broad Street yesterday escaped with £400 in cash. They also took the owner's car which was later found burned out at O'Malley Park.

Earlier an attempted raid on a public house on the Dublin Road outside Limerick was foiled when gardai intercepted two men who had entered the premises through the roof.
