THREE NEW maps of Ireland aimed at helping to highlight attractions and events around the country were unveiled yesterday by Minister for Tourism Leo Varadkar.

A detailed road map, an outdoor activities map and a traditional music events map focus on specific activities and aim to make it easier for visitors to find events that interest them around the country. They include details on attractions such as equestrian activities, walking or cycling. The music map shows visitors where and when a music event is taking place. The maps use up-to-date official tourist information from Fáilte Ireland.

Prepared by the Ordnance Survey of Ireland, they will sell at €2.99 each at bookstores, tourist offices and online from ordnance survey.

Launching the maps, Mr Varadkar said he hoped the maps would be the first of a wide range of guides to Ireland’s visitor attractions.

“Many people come to Ireland with different interests or pursuits in mind – whether it’s surfing or a trad session. These maps have a great range of detail which tourists will find very useful,” he said.

Geraldine Ruane, chief executive of Ordnance Survey Ireland, said the maps would be of great benefit to tourists. “We also hope that this collaboration between two State agencies is the start of a series of informative maps to help visitors know what is going on in Ireland,” she said.

Shaun Quinn, chief executive of Fáilte Ireland, said a new Discover Ireland app for mobile phones would also go live soon.
