Three people have been charged with murdering a 29-year-old man who died after being attacked in Co Louth on St Stephen’s Day 2007.

Darren McKeown from Donore, Co Meath died two days after being assaulted at a party in the Rowan Heights estate, Marley’s Lane, Drogheda.

Michael Cruise (18) of Donore Avenue, Ballsgrove, Drogheda and Louise Wall (20) of Cranmore, Clogherhead appeared at Drogheda District Court today charged with the murder of Mr McKeown.

They were also charged with committing violent disorder at Rowan Heights estate with a number of others on December 25th and 26th, 2007.

Also charged with the murder was Jason McGlone McEnteggart (18) with an address at Beechwood Drive, Marley's Lane, Drogheda. He also faces a charge of violent disorder.

His solicitor Patrick Goodwin said he was concerned for his clients welfare and Judge Flann Brennan directed he receive medical and psychiatric attention while in custody.

Three other people - Roy Traynor (19) of Beechwood Drive, Drogheda, Sean Dyas (20) of Rathmullen Park, Drogheda and a 17-year-old youth - also appeared charged with violent disorder on December 25th and 26th, 2007.

With the exception of the youth, who cannot be named because of his age, all were remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court next Thursday.

The youth was granted bail on strict conditions including that he reside with his grandmother, stay away from Rowan Heights and not interfere with witnesses. He will appear again at the Children’s Court later this month.

The mother of the deceased was in court for the hearing.
