About 2,000 people in several German cities marched on today against far-right violence, while a far-right rally in the western Germany town of Hagen took place relatively peacefully, officials said.
Police in Hagen in the industrial Ruhr region did detain two of 120 far-right protesters for displaying banned Nazi symbols. Another 800 opposed to far-right groups held a rival demonstration, with 1,500 police on hand to separate the opposing sides and prevent violence, officials said.
On Friday, 60 right-wing extremists marched through Ennepetal, a small town of 35,000 east of Cologne. About 1,000 police were needed to protect the neo-Nazis from counter demonstrations. Police detained 22 people who tried to disrupt the neo-Nazi march.
