The lowdown on Dublin 4

The sky is overcast but, walking along the avenue, they see a hammock swinging gently in the breeze. Ah, there's a little bit of Mexico beating away in the heart of Dublin 4. Ambassador Daniel Dultzin is waiting to welcome Irish neighbours and friends to his home. He wants to forge "deep relations" with them. He's even wearing a knitted tie from Inis Meain and a soft wool suit by Irish designer Pat McCarthy.

Tempting aromas waft from the kitchen of Lupita Cruz and her husband, Ignacio Ordonez, through the reception rooms. These are real tacos, says urban planner Cecilia Martinez to her husband, business man Jaime de La Macorra - both here on a short visit from Mexico. "Have you tasted the quesadillas? Try the molletes," they urge. Canadian ambassador Ronald Irwin has come along for the party too.

The latest work from RTE producer/ director Michael Davitt, which features some of the people and "the ordinary Joe Soaps from Dublin 4", is screened at the reception. The film, Dublin 4 - A Documentary, includes scenes from the wedding earlier this year of Johanna Tilley, a private in the Army, to Dave Rock, who's off to East Timor next week, she says. Her father, Liam Tilley Senior, and brother Liam Junior, have also come along to see the documentary.

Anne Davis is excited to see herself on screen. "I'm a taxi-driver doubling as a counsellor to my customers," she says. "It's an absolutely great life, a lovely life. I never know where the wheels are going to take me."
