Nine of the ten people injured in Kilkenny Station this afternoon in a collision between a train engine and its carriages have been released from hospital.

The incident occurred when the engine of the 11.30 a.m. Dublin to Waterford train crashed into carriages while coupling.

None of the injured were seriously hurt.

They were taken to St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny, where nine of the injured were later released. One person has been admitted to the hospital for further treatment.

Around 100 passengers were aboard the train. They continued their journey to Waterford by coach.

No damage was caused to the train and Iarnród Éireann has launched an investigation into the incident, a company spokesman said.

Normal services have since resumed.
