Police in Northern Ireland have recovered two explosive devices in a planned search in south Belfast last night.
Two viable pipe bombs were recovered along with a quantity of ammunition in an alleyway at the rear of houses in the Ulsterville Drive area.
The search began at 8.30pm yesterday, and army bomb experts were called in to deal with the find.
A number of items have been removed and inquiries are continuing.
A police spokesman said there was no evidence as yet that the find was linked to recent attacks on Romanians in the Lisburn Road area.
More than 100 Romanians were forced from their homes in the area last week after a number of racist attacks. They were sent to emergency accommodation after temporarily taking refuge in a church, and more than 100 have indicated they want to return home to Romania.
A number of people have since appeared in court charged in relation to the attacks.
In a separate incident two petrol bombs were thrown at a house on Coronation Villas in Maghera, Co Derry.
The alarm was raised at 12:35am after a car and a house were set on fire in the attack.
A PSNI spokeswoman said a motive has yet to be established for the attack and police are appealing for witnesses to contact them.
