Fine Gael said yesterday the Government was ignoring the plight of children in failing to establish an ombudsman's office for children.

The party's spokesman on children's affairs, Mr Dan Neville, said the Government had refused to act on a United Nations convention it had ratified to legislate for the rights of children.
