THE family of missing Co Kilkenny woman Jo Jo Dullard have begun a petition to get the Government to fulfil a promise to carry out a search of the area where she went missing.
Jo Jo was 21 when she disappeared while hitch hiking from Dublin to her home in Callan, Co Kilkenny, on November 9th, 1995. Her family want to search a 20 mile radius of Moone, including a number of particular areas. They accept that Jo Jo is no longer alive but they want her body found so they can "give her the Christian burial she deserves".
Jo Jo's sister Mary Phelan and her husband Gerard Phelan said yesterday they want to put pressure on the government to "carry out the search already sanctioned of a specified area in the vicinity of Moone, Co Kildare". They have collected more than 500 signatures so far and expect thousands by Christmas. Mr Phelan said yesterday it has been some time since they had an update from the gardai on the case.
However Supt Michael Hurley, who is in charge of the case, said that over 70 days have been spent searching for Jo Jo and that more than 2,000 statements have been taken.
