More medals added to Team Ireland's tally

TEAM IRELAND:   Team Ireland's medal tally yesterday was four gold, seven silver and seven bronze.

Table tennis took centre stage as Rebecca Bourke took gold in her singles final, and silver with Margaret Carey in the doubles.

In the runner-up spot were Hannah Guina and Teresa Swaine; Jason Kearns and Liam Ryan and Brian Cork and Paul Sweeney.

Three other combinations took bronze: Mary Foley and Bernadette Carroll; Michael O'Connor and Michael O'Grady; Noel Lydon and Teddy O'Connor.

Two other bronze medals were won in the singles competitions by Wexford's Mary O'Brien and Cork's Emily Meagher.

Swimming provided yet another gold rush with Sarah Carroll, Leonard McEvoy and Thomas Ryan all finishing in the top spot in their finals.

The equestrian team also came good with Mary Crosse winning a silver to add to her gold from Tuesday; Ashlene Coleman a silver to add to her bronze; and Niall Masterson a bronze to add to his silver.

In athletics, Ireland's highlight of the day was Moira Moran's bronze in the 400m final.

In bowling, Clare Hayes from and Ita O'Brien won silver in the doubles competition.
