London - Supporters of Mr Alun Michael, who is fighting to become leader of the Welsh Labour Party, claimed yesterday he has almost 40 per cent support with a month of campaigning still to go.

Mr Michael, the Welsh Secretary, had an important win on Saturday when the engineering union, the AEEU, backed him by 60-40 against the challenger, Mr Rhodri Morgan.
