New Delhi - McDonald's has tried to save its reputation in India by denying claims that it had secretly "laced" its French fries with beef.

Hindu demonstrators attacked one McDonald's outlet in Bombay, shouted slogans outside another and picketed the multinational's Delhi office. The protesters have called on India's Prime Minister, Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee, to close down all McDonald's 27 branches in India.
