A man was charged yesterday following the seizure of nearly £1 million worth of cocaine and other drugs in Belfast and Newtownards last week. Mr Stephen Desmond Magee (32), a taxi-driver, from Donaghadee Road, Newtownards, Co Down, faced seven charges at Belfast Magistrates Court.

He was accused of possessing ecstasy tablets and amphetamine when arrested at Dee Street, east Belfast, last Wednesday. All the charges alleged that he had possession with intent to supply.

Mr Magee was further charged with possessing a Magnum pistol, 32 rounds of ammunition and commercial explosives with intent to endanger life. Det Sgt David Burns said Mr Magee replied to all the charges: "I was told to mind the stuff."
