Man charged in connection with hotel death

A 38-year old man has been charged in connection with the death of a hotel worker at a hotel in Co Cavan earlier today.

A 38-year old man has been charged in connection with the death of a hotel worker at a hotel in Co Cavan earlier today.

He is being charged under Section 13 of the Non Fatal Offences Against the Person Act and will appear before Ardee District Court tomorrow morning.

The victim, named tonight as Mr Hugh O'Brien from Cavan Town, was in his mid 30s. He was pronounced dead on arrival to Cavan general hospital.

The man was arrested after Mr O'Brien was knocked down in the grounds of the Carricksprings Hotel, in Crosskeys Co Cavan at 12.30 a.m.

Mr O'Brien was reportedly a security man at the hotel's night club.

The scene of the death has been preserved for technical examination.
