The jury in the trial of Mr Ray Whiting was discharged over "procedural irregularities".

The trial will now have to be restarted with a new jury.

The disappearance of the the eight-year-old British schoolgirl sparked a massive hunt last year.

The jury at Lewes Crown Court was told Mr Whiting, 42, formerly from Littlehampton, West Sussex, denied kidnapping Sarah on July 1st last year and murdering her between June 30th and July 3rd.
