Ireland's Sinead Jennings has continued her impressive run in world class rowing, taking silver in today's lightweight single scull at the World Cup regatta in Milan.

The former world champion, the only Irish 'A' finalist of the weekend, was pipped into second by Britains Jo Hammond and came home in a time of 07:47.92.

Elsewhere, the Irish men's lightweight four managed fourth in the 'B' final while the lightweight double scullers rounded off an encouraging weekend for the Irish team with first place in their 'B' final.

In the coxless pairs, world champions Matthew Pinsent and James Cracknell of Britain suffered a surprise defeat as they were beaten into third by the Croatian and Italian pairs.

Pinsent said: "It was not a good day at the office. We had a reasonable start and our race plan depended on moving well through the middle with South Africa and Croatia."

"We did well against South Africa but the Croatians were much faster than they were when we beat them in the semi-final."
