Dubai - Iran yesterday ignored an Iraqi request for the return of more than 140 aircraft flown secretly to Iran six years ago for safekeeping during the Gulf War.

Tehran has spurned Baghdad's repeated pleas for the return of the aircraft - a mixture of military and civilian planes - whose flight to Iran was one of the most mysterious episodes of the 1991 conflict. Iraq has now asked for UN help to get them back.
