Tottenham midfielder Gustavo Poyet is expected to return to action in four to six weeks following knee surgery.

The Uruguayan underwent keyhole surgery on his meniscus. Fears he damaged his cruciate ligaments proved unfounded.

"No cruciate, no medial ligament, no nothing! It was only a typical meniscus injury - it happens in football," Poyet told the club's official website.

"I had the operation last week to repair the meniscus that was blocking my knee, especially with stretching. It was clear in there and apart from the meniscus everything is fine.
