Vienna - The Austrian far-right leader, Mr Jorg Haider, yesterday predicted that a new coalition between the Social Democrats and conservatives would collapse within a few years and that his Freedom Party would win the next election.

The Social Democrats and the conservative People's Party agreed yesterday to renew their 13-year-old alliance, ensuring that the Freedom Party, which took second place in last October's election, will remain in opposition. Mr Haider said the coalition partners were defying the wishes of voters.
