A 19-year-old driver of a car and the 20-year-old passenger were killed yesterday when their vehicle collided with a lorry on the N4, between Rooskey and Dromod, Co Roscommon. The accident happened at around 3.45 p.m. The driver was taken to Sligo General Hospital and the passenger to Mullingar General Hospital. Both were pronounced dead on arrival.

In Co Louth, the 37-year-old driver of a sand lorry was killed yesterday when he lost control of the vehicle, which overturned at about 1 p.m., at Bohernamoe, just outside Ardee. He was declared dead on arrival at hospital.

A man died in Blueball, Co Offaly, when his car collided with a truck on the way to Tullamore yesterday. Mr Peter Fitzgibbon (40) was from Ballydaly, Tullamore. The crash occurred at about 7 a.m.
