ROME - A judge questioned former SS major Karl Hass in hospital yesterday after he was placed under house arrest to stop him escaping an investigation into his involvement in Italy's worst World War Two massacre.
Military judge Giuseppe Mazzi went to the Rome clinic where the 84 year old German was recovering from injuries' suffered while trying to avoid testifying at the war crimes trial of fellow ex Nazi Ench Priebke. Hass, who has admitted taking part in the 1944 Ardeatine Caves massacre along with Priebke, broke his pelvis when he jumped from a hotel balcony in June.
