Northern sports fans who engage in sectarian or indecent chanting could be fined up to £1,000 (€1,100) under new legislation introduced yesterday.
Minister for Justice David Ford unveiled the laws that will mean supporters at most football, GAA and rugby games who take part in such chants, throw missiles or invade the pitch will be subject to the fines.
Possession of alcohol on private-hire vehicles on the way to sporting events is also banned and could lead to a three-month prison sentence.
