Elan’s chief financial officer and vice-president, Mr Tom Lynch, has resigned from the board of Northern Ireland based pharmaceutical company Galen Holdings plc.

Galen, which produces specialty pharmaceutical products for the international market made the announcement this morning saying Mr Lynch resigned because of pressure of work.

Mr Lynch, as vice-president of Elan has vigorously defended the performance of Elan since the Wall Street Journalquestioned accounting in the firm.

He said the company's accounting policies had been comprehensively reviewed by the Securities and Exchange Commission, the American stock markets regulator, as recently as 1999.
