UCD: offers two four-year degree courses in horticulture. Students interested in commercial horticulture apply through the CAO for the agricultural science option. Landscape horticulture with more art components will from next year be provided as a separate entry course. Both courses will share the first year with all agricultural science students.

Teagasc: offers three-year diploma courses at four separate centres: College of Amenity Horticulture, National Botanic Gardens, Dublin; Salesian College of Horticulture, Warrenstown, Co Meath; Kildalton College, Piltown Co Kilkenny and College of Horticulture, An Grianan, Drogheda, Co Louth. The courses are applied for through Teasgasc and entry is though an assessment.

UCD's taught master's in landscape architecture: basic requirement includes a primary honours degree in agriculture, architecture or other appropriate disciplines. If students do not have an appropriate degree they may have to do a course in horticulture before beginning the course. Work experience in areas related to the horticulture profession is an advantage. Admission by interview and portfolio.

PLC programmes: courses on horticulture are offered by St Peter's College in Killester, Dublin; Pearse College, Clogher Road, Dublin, and Ringsend Technical Institute, Dublin. Courses last typically for one year and admission is by interview and curriculum vitae.
