Dublin - An indigenous Ecuadoran parliamentarian who was this week prevented at Heathrow Airport from travelling on to Dublin as a speaker during the Latin America Week festival has arrived back in his country, writes David Shanks.

The Latin American Solidarity Centre (LASC), the festival host, said yesterday that it was seeking legal advice on the case of Mr Miguel Lluco, who arrived home "exhausted after four long-haul flights and feeling humiliated" at his treatment under a little-known new rule that transit visas are not automically granted for onward passengers.

Mr Lluco was refused, with an apparent lack of goodwill, though he had Irish invitations and a through return ticket.
